On May 21st, 2009, TECH CORPS Texas and Hogg Middle School honored the 2008-2009 graduates of the Student TECH CORPS program!

Student TECH CORPS participants completed a year long course of technology-based instruction covering computer hardware, software, the internet, networks, peripheral devices,  and professionalism, and were required to complete a series of certification exams.  Those passing the exams with scores of 80% or better received Pre-Professional Technology certifications.  Student TECH CORPS participants engaged in service learning activities at the campus level, performing routine diagnostic and troubleshooting tasks and other activities.

Hogg’s Site-Based Coordinator stated that “the Student TECH CORPS participants at Hogg were also assigned as office workers to me so that they can help me do minor trouble-shooting and can save me time for other tasks.”  Some of the tasks they were assigned to included:

Setting up of computers for teachers

Hooking up printers and changed out toner and ink cartridges

Mapping network drives for teachers

Helping to download the TELPAS program with teacher supervision

Setting up the schools computers for testing by taking off pop-off blockers and leaving the screen at the log-on for TELPAS under the supervision of the teacher

Helping set up an additional computer lab utilizing refurbished computers received via the TECH CORPS Texas Computers for Kids program

By the end of the school year Student TECH CORPS participants were also engaged in the assessment and minor repair of older computers on campus.  The Student TECH CORPS Program involved a rigorous course of study and we invite you to help us celebrate the achievement of these great students who completed the Hogg Middle School class.  Please see the attached  press release for more detail.
